Police in Recklinghausen/Bottrop district introduce innovative tactics - Youth-focused initiative "AddressBAR"

Police in the Recklinghausen/Bottrop district are taking innovative steps - introducing the "AddressBAR" specifically targeted at young people.

The police in Recklinghausen have announced the launch of a new dialogue series called "AnsprechBAR - die Polizei teilt Informationen." The series, specifically designed for students, aims to foster an open dialogue and encourage young people to be involved in shaping their communities.

Police President Friederike Zurhausen made the announcement, emphasizing the importance of prevention and enlightenment being exciting, relevant, and emotionally engaging for young people. The kick-off event for the AnsprechBAR dialogue series will take place next Thursday, 18th September 2025, at the Paul-Spiegel-Berufskolleg in Dorsten.

The dialogue series will visit several schools in the Recklinghausen district and Bottrop city until early October. These include the Paul-Spiegel-Berufskolleg in Dorsten, Schulzentrum Haltern am See, Willy-Brandt-Gesamtschule Marl, Berufskolleg Bottrop, Erich-Fried-Hauptschule and Erich-Kästner-Realschule Gladbeck, Comenius-Gymnasium Datteln, Willy-Brandt-Gesamtschule Castrop-Rauxel, Paul-Gerhardt-Schule Oer-Erkenschwick, Städtisches Gymnasium Herten, Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium Recklinghausen, and Städtische Realschule Waltrop.

The police are using a modern, interactive format for this round of AnsprechBAR, with an Airstream trailer serving as an eye-catcher and interactive formats and visual stimuli to engage young people. The focus is on an eye-level exchange, where young people can engage in conversation with police officers and discuss topics like online dangers, knife violence, radicalization, or civil courage.

Journalists are welcome to attend the events, and a brief registration with the police press office (Tel. 02361-55 1033) is required. For updates on the AnsprechBAR dialogue series, you can follow the news on the provided platforms.

The police are encouraging young people to be taken seriously, not lectured to, and to have a say in shaping things. This initiative is a significant step towards building trust between the police and young people, promoting media literacy and critical thinking, preventing violence and radicalization, and enlightening about digital crime and everyday dangers.
