Preserve Your Carrot Harvest: Top Tips from Gardeners

Gardeners, take note! Here are some top tips to preserve your carrot harvest. From trimming to storing, we've got you covered.

Start by choosing firm, healthy carrots. Avoid those with cracks or damage. After digging, trim the tops immediately to prevent moisture loss and maintain their texture and taste.

To dry, spread carrots in a thin layer in a dark, dry, and cool place. This could be a well-ventilated cool room or even a shaded area outdoors, as long as the temperature is around +10°C. Leave them for several days until they're dry.

When storing, pack carrots in boxes with damp sand, sawdust, clay, or moss. This helps maintain humidity and prevents them from drying out. Make sure to store them in an ideal environment, between 0 and +2°C with 90-95% humidity. This will help retain their freshness and taste until spring.

A little-known tip is to carefully cut carrot greens at the 'shoulders'. This promotes faster healing and reduces infection risk.

By following these steps, you can successfully preserve your carrot harvest. From choosing the right carrots to creating the perfect storage conditions, these tips will help you enjoy your homegrown carrots long into the season.
