Private retreat of Princess Margaret on Mustique island expands art-focused events schedule

Mustique, the exclusive Caribbean island known for its luxury accommodations and celebrity visitors, is set to host its first ever all-inclusive retreat dedicated to plein air painting. The retreat, starting on May 31, will be guided by artists Marc Dalessio and Tina Orsolic.

This unique event is part of Mustique's extended arts programme, which includes the 'Art Basil' festival now in its sixth year. The festival includes art classes, an exhibition, and an auction, with 'Sunset Sip and Paint' sessions being held at Basil's Bar, a famous spot on the island guided by a local artist for painting lessons each evening.

The retreat offers guests a chance to book a single room inside one of Mustique's fabled villas, with prices starting from £6,300 per person. Some of these villas were famously designed by Oliver Messel, a renowned British theatre designer who also worked on the island.

Rosie Paterson, the Digital Content Director & Travel Editor for the platform, will also be participating in the retreat. Rosie, who studied Art History at university and has written for various publications, including Mr & Mrs Smith and The Gentleman's Journal, joined the platform's team in July 2014. Since then, she has edited the magazine's special Queen's Platinum Jubilee issue and coordinated the platform's own 125th birthday celebrations.

In addition, Rosie has been invited to judge a travel media award and chaired live discussions on the London property market, sustainability, and luxury travel trends. The office jokes that she spends her time between Claridge's, Devon, and the Maldives.

While Mustique has a rich cultural and artistic ambiance, no specific all-inclusive art retreat has been widely advertised in public sources. The island's exclusivity means that many experiences are private and by invitation or reservation only. For accurate details on a specific art retreat, contacting luxury travel specialists or Mustique’s official management might be necessary.
