Produce Gathered from Public Spaces

Grow with Neuss' Community Gardens: Admire, Appreciate, and Grow!

Food waste isn't just about tossing the leftovers. It's also about not fully acknowledging the beauty and value of fresh produce. But here's a solution: introducing the "Community Garden" project! This innovative initiative aims to educate those who can't grow their own garden. By cultivating fruits and veggies in public spaces, we broaden horizons on nutrition, sustainability, and a bit of gardening fun!

The inaugural season in Neuss this spring will sprout in Nordstadt (Engelbertstraße/Plankstraße intersection). Collaborating with local partners, the community gardens will be developed, maintained, and nurtured at each location. Post planting in early summer, the grand Harvest Festival awaits in the fall, followed by winterizing the grounds for the following year.

Curious peeps are invited to a Garden Kick-off on Tuesday, March 12, from 5 to 7 pm at the Aquarium, Thomas-Morus-Haus (Adolfstraße 54, 41462 Neuss). At this meet-up, we'll gather ideas, wishes, and plan the "garden year."

Whether on the fields or in barrier-free raised beds, regardless of age. Working together, you can plant, sow, and grow diverse vegetable varieties under eco-friendly guidelines. Events and workshops for kids and adults, as well as regular garden office hours for shared bed maintenance and gardening wisdom exchange are on the horizon. Schools and nurseries can provide educational experiences on the community garden, and there will be evening meetings and collaborations with local initiatives. Plus, digital and analog educational materials about sustainable vegetable cultivation, consumptions, and healthy eating will be provided.
