In the heart of Offenbach, a popular tradition has received a modern upgrade. The city councilor, Paul-Gerhard Weiß, and city treasurer Martin Wilhelm, recently unveiled 25 new water fountains in Leonhard-Eißnert-Park. The new construction, which cost around 700,000 euros, significantly more than originally planned, replaces the quaint concrete sculptures that once spewed water but have been out of commission due to outdated technology and their location under a building.

The renovation of the concrete sculptures was not feasible, as they were embedded with technology that is no longer efficient or compliant with current environmental standards. Demolition of the building would be required to remove the outdated technology, making renovation an impractical option.

The new water fountains are a testament to the city's commitment to providing a refreshing oasis for residents and visitors alike. The fountains are operational daily during the summer holidays from 9 am to 9 pm, offering a welcome respite from the heat.

City councilor Paul-Gerhard Weiß explained the reasons why renovation was not possible, citing structural issues, technological obsolescence, material deterioration, and regulatory compliance as key factors. He further elaborated that intricate designs, the choice of materials, location and accessibility, and the incorporation of modern features like LED lighting, water recycling systems, or advanced filtration can significantly affect the cost of new construction.

The new water fountains have been met with enthusiasm. Many children are thrilled with the new additions and can be seen running onto the new field as soon as the ribbon is cut. A local father shared his son's excitement, stating, "He loves the new water fountains. It's a great addition to the park."

For those who remember the quaint concrete sculptures from their childhood, the new water fountains may not hold the same charm. Evren Gezer, a FFH radio presenter, shared his nostalgia, "I used to splash around in this park as a child in the 1980s. The new water fountains are certainly an improvement, but they lack the charm of the old ones."

Despite the higher-than-anticipated cost, the new water fountains in Leonhard-Eißnert-Park are a step towards modernising the city's green spaces while maintaining the tradition of cooling off in the park during the summer holidays. For more detailed insights into the specifics of the renovation or construction costs, it is recommended to contact local authorities or the park's management team.

The city councilor's decision to replace the quaint concrete sculptures with new water fountains is an initiative to modernize the city's home-and-garden spaces, specifically Leonhard-Eißnert-Park. The new water fountains, complete with LED lighting, water recycling systems, and advanced filtration, reflect an outdoor-living lifestyle that appeals to both residents and visitors.
