The Rhineland-Palatinate Triennial, a three-year art event showcasing contemporary art, is set to debut in Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate, in 2026. This statewide exhibition format invites professional artists of all media with a provable connection to Rhineland-Pfalz to apply until September 1, 2025.

Organised by the Association of Visual Artists Rhineland-Pfalz e.V. on behalf of the Ministry of Family, Women, Culture, and Integration of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, the Triennial aims to be inclusive and forward-thinking, offering barrier-free formats, low-threshold access, and diverse mediation offers to reach a wide audience.

Trier, steeped in cultural and historical diversity, provides a unique backdrop for the Triennial. Established institutions like the TUFA and the Kunsthalle, public spaces, and UNESCO World Heritage sites like Roman monuments will be integrated into the exhibition.

The Rhineland-Palatinate Triennial stands for an understanding of art as a connecting, transformative medium, firmly rooted in local contexts and open to new perspectives. Workshops, interactive formats, and open dialogue spaces will invite viewers to actively think and co-create art, not just passively.

The curated exhibition will feature around 50 professional artists with ties to Rhineland-Palatinate, and will run from April 24 to May 31, 2026. The Triennial focuses on visibility, cultural participation, and dialogue between contemporary art and society.

Dr. Des. Carolin Heel, Norina Quinte, and Stefanie Schmeink are all involved in the organisation and curation of the Rhineland-Palatinate Triennial. Dr. Heel is an art historian, curator, and artist with a focus on works that question relationships, negotiate fragile narratives, and combine conceptual strength with aesthetic precision. Norina Quinte is a concept developer, curator, and founder of the platform "ato", interested in interdisciplinary processes and stimulating new perspectives through innovative formats and artistic interventions. Stefanie Schmeink is an artist and chairperson of the BBK Rhineland-Palatinate, who develops a curatorial approach that considers both the individual and the whole, making independent artistic positions visible and exploring their connections.
