In the world of allotments, you'd usually find Michael Baumann criticizing the gardens that fail to meet the standards. But recently, he's been singing a different tune on Instagram.
In plain English,
- Michael Baumann is a 51-year-old allotment guardian who oversees Leipzig's gardens.
- Typically, he slams gardens that don't comply with his allotment's rules.
- These days, however, he's doling out compliments and flowers (virtually, of course) to the best gardens he sees.
A Change in Tone
Making heads turn, Baumann's latest Instagram video spreads praise for some well-kept gardens. Admiring the first garden, he says, "The hedge is perfect — it should be 1.5 meters high, and this one's under 1.5. Just right."
Furthermore, the plants are a bastion of diversity: potatoes, fruit trees, flowers, currants, poppies – you name it. "A true German allotment, just like it should be," Baumann approves.
Swept off His Feet
Nicknamed the "pralines of the allotment association" (Tippi Toppi), the second garden takes his breath away. There's a rose arch, smooth pathways, and a luscious tomato field – the hobby gardener's dream. Plus, the owners follow the one-third rule, which is most appreciated by Baumann. "I'm highly impressed with this," he says, "As much as I'm impressed with anything."
The Garden Sheriff's Newfound Love
Baumann expresses his Twitterpated feeling, "I only wish for gardens like this every other time. There's nothing to complain about here."
It seems Baumann's 50,000 Instagram followers are enamored with his new tone, with comments ranging from "Much better... Just LOVE" to "This is so refreshing!" So, will this compassionate side of Michael Baumann last, or will he return to his critical ways? Only time will tell.
