Timepiece innovator New A Lange and Söhne combines two distinct features in its latest creation, the Zeitwerk.

A Lange & Söhne Introduces the Zeitwerk Date with a Pink Gold and Grey Dial

A. Lange & Söhne, a renowned name in the world of watchmaking, has unveiled a new addition to its Zeitwerk collection. The Zeitwerk Date model, featuring a 44.2 mm diameter by 12.3 mm height 18k pink gold case, presents a warm, refined look while maintaining a strong wrist presence. This is the first time the Zeitwerk Date model has been paired with a pink gold case and grey dial.

The dial of the Zeitwerk Date model is grey, with a printed glass calendar ring surrounding it. Transparent date numbers, set against a pale grey background, are visible within the ring. A rotating ring with a red accent beneath indicates the date, creating an innovative and highly technical date display that jumps instantaneously at midnight alongside the time.

Powering the Zeitwerk Date model is the in-house manually wound caliber L043.8 movement, running at 2.5 Hz (18,000 beats per hour). The movement consists of 516 components, including two barrels and two mainsprings, offering a 72-hour power reserve. The L043.8 movement employs a patented constant-force escapement, crucial for the precision of the jumping digital hour, minute, and date discs, and a fly governor mechanism that absorbs surplus energy, ensuring robustness.

The date function adds 65 parts to the movement over the base Zeitwerk and uses a sophisticated mechanism similar to the instantaneous minute totalizer on the Lange Datograph, including a snail cam for energy storage and release. The date is advanced by a pusher at 8 o’clock, using an innovative “all-or-nothing” spring mechanism that causes the date to jump on release of the pusher, rather than when pressed, enhancing reliability and addressing space constraints within the movement.

The Zeitwerk Date model is equipped with a dark brown alligator leather strap and a matching 18 carat pink gold buckle. The case features polished bezel and brushed sides with Lange’s proprietary pink gold alloy. The watch boasts a water resistance of 30 meters, suitable for everyday wear. The movement’s finishing includes anglage, straight brushing, gold chatons, solarized ratchet wheel, and a sapphire case back to view the mechanical artistry.

The Zeitwerk Date model continues the Zeitwerk legacy of mechanical digital time display with high technical sophistication, updated with a warmer aesthetic for 2025. The L043.8 movement is decorated to the usual high standards associated with A Lange & Söhne. While the pink gold and grey dial combination has appeared on other models from the Lange 1 family, it's the first appearance in the Zeitwerk collection.

Priced in the region of €130,000 (approx. £112,900 / US$153,000 / AU$213,500), the Zeitwerk Date model is not an impulse buy, but a potential purchase for fans of the brand or those seeking to celebrate a milestone. The Zeitwerk Date model's case height of 12.3mm is respectably slim, making it a suitable choice for those who appreciate the blend of style and precision offered by A Lange & Söhne.
