Hop on a tram and explore the heart of Düsseldorf! Jacques Tilly, a renowned designer, has breathed new life into the city's public transportation system, creating a unique tram that showcases Düsseldorf's culture and charm. Since its debut on Monday (3.7.), this eye-catching vehicle has been zipping through the city, leaving a trail of delight for residents and visitors alike.

The Wehrhahn lines have taken a turn for the trendy, as the tram now proudly sports an Altbier heart and highlights the city's iconic brew. "Düsseldorf and Altbier are two sides of the same coin," explains Jacques Tilly. "The beer is an integral part of the city's identity, symbolizing shared good times and camaraderie."

Tilly's design doesn't just focus on the drink, though. The tram features a who's who of Düsseldorf, with images of the Japanese community, Mother Ey, the city's mayor, and even a familiar neighborhood face named Jupp. Landmarks like the Gerry Buildings, Lambertus Church, Schloss Benrath, the town hall, and the Tonhalle are also prominently displayed.

But don't expect this tram to serve a glass of Altbier – though it might make passengers thirsty! Instead, Düsseldorf's famous local breweries – Füchschen, Kürzer, Schlösser, Schumacher, and Uerige – are immortalized through Tilly's clever design, along with many social occasions involving the beloved beverage.

Klaus Klar, CEO and works director of Rheinbahn, enthusiastically shared his thoughts on the new tram, stating, "We're thrilled to celebrate this special beer variety with our tram. Altbier is synonymous with Düsseldorf, much like the Rheinbahn, and after enjoying a delicious pour of Altbier, our buses and trams will safely and comfortably escort all guests home."

At the inauguration of the tram, Tilly, Andreas Hartnigk, chairman of the Rheinbahn supervisory board, Klaus Klar, and representatives from the breweries toasted the new Altbier tram. From now on, passengers can catch a ride on lines U71, U72, U73, and U83.

It's no secret that Dusseldorf is known for its Altbier, iconic architecture, vibrant cultural scene, and unique community. This newly designed tram is sure to capture that spirit, serving as a rolling piece of Düsseldorf pride for all to enjoy.
