Transformed ride: Modular e-bicycle adjusts to fit your lifestyle

The Urbanisto, a groundbreaking creation from the Dutch startup of the same name, is revolutionising urban transportation with its innovative design. This transformable bike caters to both regular commuting and cargo transportation needs, making it a versatile choice for city dwellers.

The Urbanisto's unique selling point lies in its ability to switch from a standard city bicycle to a cargo bike in mere seconds, without the need for tools. To transform, the fork and front wheel are removed, and a connector from the cargo module is inserted into the head tube. A wing nut on the side of the head tube is loosened, and a coupler in the front brake hose is released.

The bike is equipped with a Bosch Smart System Performance Line motor, delivering 75Nm of torque for strong, smooth acceleration. It also boasts 4-piston brakes sourced from Magura, providing robust stopping power, and continuously variable gears made by Enviolo, offering a smooth and efficient ride.

In its standard configuration, the Urbanisto rides on Schwalbe tires and features a spring fork. However, when converted to a cargo bike, it uses a SR Suntour fork with 100 mm of travel for a smoother ride on bumpy roads.

The Urbanisto offers two cargo options: a closed-sided module designed for transporting up to two small children, and an open-sided module for larger cargo items like boxes. The closed-sided module is designed for extra safety and comfort for children, while the open-sided module is suitable for transporting boxes, groceries, and deliveries.

The battery range for the Urbanisto, depending on the choice (400Wh to 725Wh), is up to 110 km as a standard ebike, and about 80 km (roughly 50 miles) with either cargo module attached.

The Urbanisto received an award at Eurobike 2025 in Frankfurt, Germany, and is now available for pre-order and test rides in the Netherlands. This transformable bike was born out of the desire for a single bike that could handle commuting, family transportation, and heavy loads, making it a valuable addition to modern city living.

The Urbanisto, award-winning at Eurobike 2025, serves as a valuable addition to modern city living, merging the roles of commuting, family transportation, and heavy loads in a versatile package. Its transformation into a cargo bike using home-and-garden tools like a wing nut and a coupler, highlights its compatibility with various lifestyle demands, while its advanced technology features, such as the Bosch Smart System and Enviolo continuously variable gears, ensure smooth and efficient rides for home-and-garden events or daily transportation.
