Bergisch Gladbach's Turkish Gem: Bey Ogul
Turkish Workers Taking Midday Meal, Referred to as "Bey Oğlu"
Bey Ogul, a renowned Turkish restaurant in the heart of Bergisch Gladbach, offers an extensive menu of grilled dishes, meze, lahmacun, and pide. With its convenient location near the train station, this establishment has become a beloved spot for both locals and commuters since its opening almost a decade ago.
The meal at Bey Ogul begins with a warm welcome from a friendly staff member. Lush leather-upholstered seats and sturdy wooden tables cultivate an inviting, modern ambiance. peculiar wall décor, including a vertical garden and bamboo panels, lends a cozy touch to the dining room.
The backdrop exudes an Istanbul vibe, oftentimes inspiring nostalgia for the Galata Tower, situated in Beyoğlu, a central district in Istanbul. The restaurant's seating areas blend seamlessly to accommodate both quick bites during breaks or extended meals.
When it came time to order, I opted for a grilled dish topped with a juicy lamb skewer, priced at 18.90 euros. Meanwhile, Kathy opted for a large selection of vegetarian meze, costing 13.90 euros. The dish, presented lavishly, incorporated various dips like hummus and carrot paste, along with eggplant salad, fresh falafel balls, and an assortment of cheese-filled borek sticks.
Bey Ogul's menu caters to various dietary preferences, with a slew of dishes available for vegetarians. However, meat lovers will be quick to notice the abundant selection, including an entire menu dedicated to grilled meat dishes and several meat-filled pastries.
Upon settling our bill, we each received a cup of black tea as a complimentary gesture. Despite a tempting dessert menu, we decided to forego sweets on this particular visit. However, the assortment of rice pudding, semolina pudding, and syrup-drenched baklava await those with a sweet tooth[2].
Bey Ogul's central location and extended opening hours (until 11 pm on weekdays and 1 am on weekends) make it an ideal destination for lunch or an evening meal[2]. Whether you're seeking a quick snack, a leisurely meal, or a taste of authentic Turkish cuisine, Bey Ogul is a worthy addition to your dining itinerary.
