In the heart of Omsk, a city nestled along the picturesque Irtysh River, a significant environmental initiative recently took place. The Omsk Refinery, also known as ONPR, played a pivotal role in the "Water of Russia" riverbank cleanup action.

Together with volunteers from various local organisations and municipal services, ONPR employees cleared nearly four kilometres of riverbank, making a substantial impact on the city's ecology. In just a few hours, they collected over 250 bags of trash, amounting to around 16 tons of waste. This waste was then sent for recycling, marking a step towards more sustainable waste management practices.

ONPR's active stance on ecology is not new. The enterprise has been a reliable partner in fostering ecological culture among youth at all levels, engaging in eco-education and promoting a greener future. The General Director of ONPR, Oleg Beliakov, noted the company's involvement in the "Water of Russia" action as a testament to their commitment to the city's cleanliness and environmental protection.

Last year, ONPR volunteers planted an alley of Siberian apricots near the Uspensky Cathedral, and this year, company employees planted two-meter-high Nezhinsky apples nearby. These initiatives not only contribute to the city's aesthetic appeal but also serve as reminders of the importance of environmental preservation.

The Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Omsk Region, Tatiana Khavronina, commended ONPR as the headline sponsor of all their ecological projects. The large-scale action saw employees of Gazprom Neft joining in, further demonstrating the collective commitment to Omsk's ecological wellbeing.

The "Water of Russia" initiative, a nationwide environmental campaign, aims to remove accumulated waste and debris along riverbanks and in water bodies, promote ecological culture and environmental awareness, enhance waste management practices, and protect aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity. By participating in such actions, cities like Omsk strive to create a cleaner environment, improve the aesthetic and recreational value of river areas, and raise public consciousness about environmental stewardship.

While specific details on the scale, exact activities, and measurable outcomes of the 2025 campaign in Omsk are not yet available, it is clear that ONPR's involvement and commitment to ecological initiatives are making a difference in the city's ecology and culture. For in-depth information, local environmental authority websites or news outlets in Omsk would be primary sources to consult.

Science plays a crucial role in environmental-science initiatives like the "Water of Russia" campaign, as data-driven strategies are essential for effectively addressing waste management and aquatic ecosystem protection.

By embracing sustainable lifestyles and incorporating home-and-garden efforts such as tree planting, companies like ONPR demonstrate their dedication to fostering a greener environment and promoting a culture of ecological preservation.
