Announcing the New D-Ticket JugendBW: Affordable Nationwide Public Transport for Young People in Baden-Württemberg

The D-Ticket JugendBW, a discounted public transportation subscription for young people living or studying in Baden-Württemberg, is set to replace the older JugendticketBW from December 11, 2023. This ticket is designed for students, apprentices, pupils, and voluntary service participants under 27 years old, offering them an affordable way to travel widely across Germany on public transit networks.

Key Details and Requirements

  • Eligibility: Residents or those undergoing education/training in Baden-Württemberg under 27 years old. Under 21, no proof of education is needed; from 21 to 26, an annual educational or eligibility proof is required (semester proof for university students). The subscription can be held up until the 27th birthday.
  • Target Groups: Pupils, students, apprentices, and voluntary service members.
  • Coverage: Nationwide on local and regional trains, buses, and trams.
  • Validity: As an annual subscription, charged monthly by direct debit.
  • Ticket Type: The ticket will be issued as a personal annual subscription and will be reissued every month due to technical requirements. Initially, it will be sent as a printable ticket by email.
  • Ordering: Tickets are sold via local transport associations; for example, in Heilbronn and Hohenlohekreis, the HNV (Heilbronner Verkehrsverbund) handles issuance based on school/university location for students and residence for apprentices.
  • Special Cases: Exchange students staying temporarily can buy guest tickets for the HNV network at reduced rates.
  • Price: About 1 euro/day; exact monthly price varies by region but is nationally standardized for youth tickets.

Ordering Process

  1. Check eligibility and age limit (under 27).
  2. Provide proof of enrollment or apprenticeship if 21 or older.
  3. Apply through your relevant regional transport authority (e.g., HNV for Heilbronn area).
  4. Receive the ticket by mail or email.
  5. Monthly fees are withdrawn automatically.
  6. Use on all qualified local and regional public transport nationwide.

It's important to note that all VPE subscription customers who currently have a VPE JugendticketBW have already been contacted. The new order deadline for the D-Ticket JugendBW is adjusted from the 10th of the previous month to the 20th of the previous month.

For students aged 27 and above, the standard Deutschland-Ticket (49 euros/month) applies instead.

The D-Ticket JugendBW can be ordered directly at a specific website, and a residence in Baden-Württemberg is required to purchase the D-Ticket JugendBW. The code can be entered in the "wohin.du.willst" app to access the ticket.

Starting December 1, 2023, the JugendticketBW will be renamed as the Germany Ticket "D-Ticket JugendBW". Young adults up to 21 years old, as well as students, trainees, and volunteers up to 27 years old from Baden-Württemberg, can use the D-Ticket JugendBW for nationwide public transport.
