Wiesbaden's Rheingau Wine Week Introduces Innovative Safety Measures
The city of Wiesbaden is gearing up for its popular Rheingau Wine Week festival with a focus on safety and security. According to Oberbürgermeister Gert-Uwe Mende, the safety of citizens is the top priority.
This year, the city has invested a significant 2.8 million euros in expanded access protection for municipal events. As part of this investment, Wiesbaden has acquired certified access barriers, including 60 Armis One and 150 Armis Go. These barriers provide the city police with the necessary security to perform their duties reliably and responsively on-site.
The Rheingau Wine Week is not only a significant event for the region but also a staple of local wine culture. The Press Office of the State Capital Wiesbaden has issued information about the new access protection measures, emphasizing that the festival is pioneering in event safety.
Aesthetic compatibility played a significant role in the selection process for the new access protection measures. The Armis Go barrier system, a market novelty introduced in June 2025, is being used for the first time in Wiesbaden. It currently has the lowest certified penetration depth as a single system, ensuring that inner-city event areas remain vibrant places.
Modern hazard prevention and quality of life on public squares are not mutually exclusive. Building and Traffic Commissioner Andreas Kowol emphasized that technology can create barriers but also open up new possibilities.
The Ordnungsdezernentin Maral Koohestanian has coordinated event protection in recent months, with specific access protection plans created for each event site with the help of a qualified expert office. During a joint walkthrough of the event area, the new barriers were inspected and explained by specialist personnel.
On August 11, city officials presented these new access protection measures for the Rheingau Wine Week, which are being used in this form for the first time even at a national level.
