Workshop scheduled for enhancing bicycle maintenance in Schönwalde II

In the heart of Greifswald, a new initiative is making cycling easier and more accessible for locals. The Schönwalde II district has recently welcomed a public bike repair workshop, located at the neighbourhood and community centre SchwalBe on Maxim-Gorki-Straße.

This workshop, funded with 12,000 euros from municipal funds, was selected through a citizen vote at last year's "Day of Decision". The initiative, according to the Greifswalder Stadtblatt 2025, was founded by local community members.

The workshop operates every Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, and interestingly, it can be used at any time, even outside of opening hours, thanks to a freely accessible repair station on-site. Assistance for bike repairs in Schönwalde II is provided by an honorary worker from the Kinderschutzbund.

The "help for self-help" principle is applied at the workshop, encouraging residents to lend a hand and learn from one another. This collaborative spirit is also evident at the bike repair workshop in the Klex youth center in the city center of Greifswald, which has been operated by the ADFC for many years, although the location of the freely accessible repair station there is not specified.

This new workshop in Schönwalde II is a testament to the community's commitment to sustainable and active transportation. Whether you're a seasoned cyclist or just starting out, the workshop offers a welcoming space for all to maintain and repair their bikes.
